Bill is seen here blowing out the candles on his “Bill” cake, baked by Jenny Penberthy. Bill was one of the first faculty members hired to work for Capilano College in 1968. He’ll be back in the fall for a special 30th anniversary event on October 2, which will star Bill and a cast of others in a surprise College production. Stay tuned! Barry Williamson was elected as staff representative to the College Board for a three year period; Elvira Balakshin and Sonja A. Wasyk were elected as student representatives for a one year period. Elected to the Education Council for a two year term were faculty members Paul Mier, from Social Sciences and Labour Studies, and Joyce Gee, from Visual and Performing Arts. The student representatives elected for one year are: Geoffrey Rosen and Sonja A. Wasyk. Lynn Jest, director of Continuing Education and Contract Services, will be replacing Lana Robinson, director of Development, Capilano College Foundation, as the College’s representative with the West Vancouver Chamber of Commerce. Lana served for two years, most recently as second vice-president. KD Miller’s story Missing Person has been named a finalist for the gold medal for fiction in this year’s National Magazine Awards. It appeared in issue 2:22 of The Capilano Review. This is the third time in the last three years that TCR has had a story short-listed for this award. Of the previous two, Sally Ito’s Shrine Maiden received honorable mention and Liz Hay’s Hand Games received the gold medal.
