Calendar of Events Sunday, October 22 Fun for the Whole Family Come out and support the Capilano College Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams when they play against Okanagan University College. Women play at noon and the men play at 2 p.m. . Refreshments will be served in the multipurpose room after each game. Tuesday, October 24 Everyone is welcome to attend a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the United Nations on Tuesday, October 24, in J building, room 208 at 12:30 p.m. A panel will discuss the relevance of the UN in today’s society. Thursday, Nov. 2 Plan to attend the fall graduation ceremonies, Sportsplex at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14 Faculty Recital Paula Kiffner will play the cello and Gaye Alcock will perform on the piano from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Fir Building, room 114. Funding Available for International Experience R™ are available for three programs that support work or study in Mexico and Asia. The grants are provided by the Ministry of Skills, Training and Labour and the program is administered by the British Columbia Centre for International Education (BCCIE). The three programs are: 1. Mexico Grant Program - Scholars Under this program, faculty, staff, or administrators may apply any expertise they may have (excluding research) at a Mexican post-secondary institution. 2. Mexico Grant Program - Students These grants will support outstanding students from B.C. public community colleges to participate in formal and rigorous programs of international study in Mexico. 3. Asia Pacific Grant Program - Students Smooth Sales for Pianos | Ee the second year in a row, the on-campus sale of pianos was a success. The partnership with Kawai Music Canada and Howard’s Pianos is expected to continue for at least two more years. “The pianos that Kawai Music loans to the College through Howard’s Pianos play a very important role in our three music programs,” say John Waters, Capilano College’s dean of Arts. “The sale is particularly benefical to our students. We appreciate Kawai’s commitment to our music programs and we are very happy with our ongoing partnership with Kawai Music and Howard’s Pianos.” i This program will enable student participation in a related program of study at an Asian institution. There are two application periods for the grants. The due dates are November | and February 1. The application process will be administered by Marjorie Croft. For more information, call local 2086. ACCC Awards The 1995-96 ACCC Awards program is accepting nominations in six categories. Any full or provisional member of ACCC may submit one nomination. The categories are: staff excellence, teaching excellence, program excellence, student leadership excellence, leadership excellence and internationalization excellence. The deadline for submissions is December 4, 1995.
