Both the ABE and Business Management departments havea right to be proud of student Mary Jo Van Bergen, who was just awarded the $300 Faculty Association Bursary for her achievements over the last year. Van Bergen, who started in the ABE evening program in April 1986 taking Math and English, registered in the Accelerated Business Management program inthe summer. Her success in keeping up with the heavy workload is particularly noteworthy in view of the fact that she had her first child at the beginning of the Christmas break and still managed to achieve a 3.458 grade point average! Congratulations to Mary Jo Van Bergen for such masterful juggling of her roles as full time student and new mother—clearly she is headed for a successful career. B.C. Tel Awards Dave Welsford, B.C. Telephone District Manager for North Vancouver, presents a $500 cheque to Legal Assistant Program student Margaret Chester. Chester and Academic student Susan Albert were this year's winners of the B.C. Telephone Company Awards for students with outstanding scholastic performances. Chester is a mature student and a single parent who is just finishing her two year program and looking forward to a practicum placement this summer. Formerly from England, she has changed careers from social work to legal assistance. "She is a wonderful student," commented Legal Assistant instructor Leslie Baker, “and she has been really helpful to all the younger students in the program. I think she's been doing a bit of Gallagher Scholarship cont. Maggie Goulding is in her last semester at Capilano and will be at SFU in the fall taking the Honours English program. We have no doubt at all that she will succeed in her future endeavours. Planning underway for graduation The Graduation Committee is up and running again.
