Button Up for Students During Annual Appeal I t is that time of the year again when everyone is being asked for donations. There are many deserving places to give your donation money, so why should you consider students? Following are a few reasons: Bev Young in Financial Services: “We donate because something has impacted us at a personal level. It just seemed logical to me to redirect some of my giving specifically to something I am closely associated with. In my case, it’s the Gerry Turner Award. Gerry gave so much friendship to so many of us, and I wanted to continue giving for her. When I hear from students the difference this award means to them, I know I have accomplished what I set out to do.” Don Basham, coordinator of Outdoor Recreation and Tourism Management, said that giving is necessary because more and more of our new “user-pay” world is transferring a financial burden to students. He said: “It seems as if every time I turn around there is a new fee of some kind directed towards students. These things are starting to add up, and I want to try to give something back now if I can. My contributions to the Foundation have been directed specifically to my program and my What’s New in the Library he Library subscribes to many annual publications which have timely, informative articles that are often overlooked by our users.
