Memorial Bursary Established by Professors, Friends and Colleagues A memorial bursary fund established in recognition of former Capilano College history student Elizabeth Lees has generated interest and donations from as far away as Alaska, Newfoundland and Great Britain, says Connie Barber from the College's Resource Development office. Elizabeth Lees began her post-secondary education at the College in 1972. She lived on Bowen Island where she ran a business. As a parent of two children, she faced many obstacles in attempting to complete her education. In recognition of her commitment to academic studies, her concern for working people and her interest in women, her friends have established the Elizabeth Lees Memorial Bursary. The initiative of Marlene Legates from the College’s history department, along with Elizabeth’s professors at Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia, touched off a fund raising campaign. Donations from Elizabeth’s colleagues and friends have so far amounted to $2,500. All contributions to the bursary fund will be matched by the Capilano College Foundation through the Provincial Matching Endowment Program. Donors will be acknowledged with an income tax receipt and recognized by the Foundation through its annual report. Income from the endowment fund will be awarded as bursaries to assist mature female students in academic studies. The Elizabeth Lees Memorial Bursary will be presented annually at a special awards reception. If you would like to send a contribution to the endowment fund in Elizabeth’s memory, please forward your cheque or consent for payroll deduction to the attention of Randi Duke in Room A101. Please make cheques payable to the Capilano College Foundation. SS CAPILANO COLLEGE
