The ink has barely dried on Govind Singh’s bachelor of Tourism Management degree from Capilano and already he knows that his next classroom will be found in five different cities worldwide. The 26-year-old is one of the lucky few to be accepted into the international master’s in manage- ment (IMM) program at Purdue University’s Krannert School of Business. Over the next two years he will be doing residencies in the university's home state of Indiana and at its partner institutions in four other countries. Govind came to Canada in 2000 from Dehradoon, India as an inter- national student looking for a study abroad opportunity. His search for something unique brought him to Capilano’s tourism program. As we ease into our 40" year and with the possibility of a new designation on the horizon, it may be timely to take a quick look back at how Capilano came by its current moniker. Tt was 1968 and councillors for a newly-formed regional college operating out of West Vancouver Secondary were ready to select a name from the 40 or so submissions made by North Shore residents. Yet acknowledgement does matter. Rorri broadened my perspective on global understanding.
