Jill_ llS LISTEN The CJBS has placed Vancouver smack in the heart of the JAZZ UNIVERSE . Since 1985, the society has produced an ongoing series of concerts , two international jazz festivals , and an assortment of jazz film presentations . Last year , the CJBS focused world attention on Vancouver by staging this city 's first MAJOR International Jazz Festival. Hundreds of musicians from around the world helped make the Festival one of Vancouver 's most stimulating cultural/entertainment events ever . 1987 du Maurier International Jazz Festival looks even more exciting . For 10 days , June 26 to July 5, over 400 musicians from 7 countries will raise the temperature at venues throughout the city . The opening weekend kicks off with a series of high-energy concerts at The Commodore Ballroom featuring some of the biggest name artists in jazz and blues today . During the week , a spectacular array of contemporary jazz performers will be highlighted at the magnificent Vancouver East Cultural Centre and the Centre Cultural Colombian (795 W. 16th Avenue). The Orpheum Theatre will hold two of the hottest jazz double-bills imaginable on July 3 and 4. Also, on the final weekend , July 3-5, the Festival moves to B.C. Complex for a dynamic multistage extravaganza at this popular , accessible , open -air site . To complete the Festival 's city-wide impact , a host of Vancouver 's top nightclubs will present great live jazz and blues ; the Granville Island Public Market Bandstand, Robson Square Plaza, and Oakridge Centre will stage free performances as well . In all , 180 performances are scheduled for the Festival. Discover and ENJOY!! For tu rt her information write us at : Suite 203-1206 Hamilton Street Vancouver, B.C.
