THE INFORMER PAGE 2 OCTOBER 18, 1989 Jean Clark and Lynn Jest pose with their captors. They raised a total of $632 for the Canadian Cancer Society. Towing Policy It’s that time of year again. As of October 16, the towing force will be on the prowl. Although it may be frustrating driving to the outer reaches of ‘Caperia’ to park your car, try to think of the benefits of exercise. Those signs saying “No Parking” are serious, and Payless Towing likes money. If you should meet that ignominious fate, however, call these sensitive people at 988-4176 and make arrangements to either have someone open their storage compound (at 3rd and Lloyd Avenue) or have one of their truck drivers pick you up outside the North cafeteria. They charge $30 for the first day and $5 for each additional day and will take cash, Visa, and Mastercard. People with special parking requirements should contact Health Services at 2964, or Special Needs (Paul Jones) at 2104, or their administrator. United Way Campaign The 1989 campaign is in full swing. Thanks to those 27 people who have donated so far. As of October 11, we’ve raised $4,550. Our goal for this campaign is $10,000. The deadline for pledge missions to Payroll is November 30, 1989. Your donation will make you eligible for one of many prizes, including: a Kiff Holland print, a piece of Donna McLaren pottery, a framed print from Carol Noonan’s Ambleside Gallery, a made-to-measure computer chair, a get-a-way package at the Hyatt Regency, $35 in cab fare coupons, a $50 certificate from the Bridge House Restaurant, new hair style from Salon 323, $25 Cheers Dollars from Cheer’s restaurant, Sunday brunch for two at the Coach House, or four toning sessions at Millions Hair Styling and Toning Studio. — Lynne Hamilton Meeting Corrections Please make the following changes on your list of regular meeting times from the September 22 issue of the Informer. First Staff PD Day a Success Approximately 30 people learned about stressors and stress, staff PD at Douglas College, and employee benefits in the first Staff Professional Development day at Cap. Organizers Sheila Browne and Eilleen Steele said the workshop was a success and that they look forward to hearing suggestions on future PD days. Douglas employee Yvonne Mostert told the audience about development days there, (the College books an entire day in May for both staff and faculty to engage in PD activities), and Ethelyn McInnis-Rankin filled people in on some of the resources stressed-out employees can take advantage of. Interest was expressed in a future workshop on the subject. (How ‘bout a roving masseur for computer-tense necks?). Bruce Lucas went over employee benefits, always a good exercise apparently, because even long-time employees had questions about the complicated system of medical and insurance benefits. Watch the /nformer for news from the committee about future plans.
