capilano a Ea: cdlege memorandum (I 1CJ: date: 11 September 1978 from: Paul Gallagher, Principal to: Members of the College RE: PLANS FOR CELEBRATING OUR 10th ANNIVERSARY The responses for ideas for celebrating the 10th Anniversary were many and varied! The 10th Anniversary Committee has reviewed all the proposals received to date, and has arrived at the decision that all were worthy of doing. Although some of the more ambitious projects wi 11 have to be trimmed for cost considerations, it was decided to fund some in full or in part from the special budget, and the balance from regular budgets, with promotion for the events to be funded by the 10th Anniversary budget as well. Where appropriate, planned special events are to be encouraged to take place over the weekend of the 1979 Open House - SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 9th and 10th (Friday and Saturday). The special activities that are now in the planning stages are: - Lecture Series sponsored by the Natural Sciences Division - proposal is that faculty members within the division present interesting public lectures on their areas of expertise - Science Competftion - aimed at encouraging participation from high school students in the college district. Guidelines for home-built science projects are to be distributed to high schools this Fall, with an on-campus competition to be held in the Spring (at the time of Open House) - Basketball Tournament - between Alberta, United States and Totem Conference teams (November '78) - Cap Communicator - special September 1978 issue � history and photographs of th� college's developing years - Capilano Courier Essay Contest - committee proposed that the Courier be invited to put out a special edition with assistance from the college staff and access to the archives. A $50.00 prize was suggested for a best student article · competition in that edition ••• 2 1=•15."i Rl=V. 4/76 /,i 2 - King Tut Trip to Seattle series of lectures by an Egyptologist will be given here at the college to precede the trip - Retail Fashion Design competition - to be held within the st�dents of the program. The design is to be related to college fashion, campus wear or an article that would be suitable for sale in the boutique. $50.00 prize is being offered to the winner The major event will be the college-wide Open House - MARCH 9 - 10, 1979, during which all departments and divisions will be encouraged to participate and hold special events. A planning committee will soon be put together to co-ordinate ideas for this event. The Art Department is planning special displays to be presented in North Shore Shopping Centres this year. Plans in other departments will be publicized when known. Anyone with special interest in helping to plan the 1979 Open House is welcome to call the Principal 1 s Office (Local 224).
