Academic “Renaissance” (from the BCAC Bulletin) A one-day conference in Richmond on Feb. 13 focussed on the "renaissance" of academic programs in B.C. Colleges. Dr. John Dennison of UBC, the conference summarizer, spoke on the surprisingly increased student demand for academic courses at most colleges, despite the fact that only about a quarter of those students actually transfer to university. Nearly 100 attendees took part in the conference, including our own Academic Dean Frank Gelin, who spoke on the question of the associate diploma in arts and/or science, which has become a hallmark of community colleges in the United States. Chairing the conference was one of Cap's ‘alumni', Paul Gallagher.
