The Vancouver Art Gallery has just
acquired for its permanent collection a
full set of prints by College English
instructor, Pierre Coupey. Requiem
Notations I-IX was created at the

PEOPLE

College as the major project for Pierre’s
1996 - 1997 paid educational leave. The
prints (one is at left) were first exhibited
in the Notations 1994 - 1998 show at
the Canadian Embassy Gallery in Tokyo
in 1998, and next at the Evergreen
Cultural Centre in Coquitlam in 1999.
The Capilano Review published a
section on the prints in its fall 1998
series 2:26. The University of
Lethbridge Art Gallery is also in the
process of acquiring a set of the prints
for its collection.

Lucas Foss’s play, Little Voices, was a
recent winner at Theatre BC’s 11th
annual Canadian National Playwriting

Competition. The jury selected a total
of 10 finalists from 115 new Canadian
plays. His play was one of three
honoured in the special merit
category. Along with a $750 cash
award, the three winning playwrights
will participate in Theatre BC’s New
Play Festival, April 7-9, at the Pavilion
Theatre in Kamloops, B.C. They will
be teamed with a professional director
and actors for both one-to-one
dramaturgy and 18 hours of intense,
daylong reworking sessions. The
process concludes with staged public
readings and presentations of their
cash awards.
