INFORMER Science students return Outstanding workshops repeated Remember the Science Enrichment Workshop for secondary school students held by the Science faculty last year? Well, this very successful event is being repeated this year in February - Thursday the 18th to be precise. Four outstanding science students from each of the Senior secondary schools in the college district will be invited to attend workshops in Biology, Chemistry, Geology and Physics. Students will be able to pick two workshops--one in’ the morning and one in the afternoon. Topics will in- clude Extraction of DNA from Salmon Sperm and Bovine Spleen, determination of con- centrate of caffeine in cola drinks using ultraviolet spectroscopy, a look at_ the Geologic setting of Capilano College in- cluding its history, materials, slope sta- bility and earthquake risk, and the meas- urement of the thickness of a hair using diffraction of laser light and microwaves (students must provide the hair). This will be a great chance for keen students-- just look at the lineup of instructors for the Biology seminar, for instance. If the students have any questions they can ask instructors Dr. Ann Frazier, Dr. Malcolm Fitz-Earle, Dr. Art Hilliker, Dr. Nancy Ricker, Ms. Joan Sharp, Dr. Keith Wade or Laboratory Supervisors Lillian McDonell, Chris Sanderson and Janet Canning and Lab Technician Barry Williamson. By the way, this is also great advertising for the College. Good luck with the workshops, everyone. Classified REWARD for return of purple ceramic neck- lack left in A building (Tower).
