A Supplement to The Informer FACULTY DEVELOPMENT MAY 17, 1991 TEACHER-DIRECTED CLASSROOM RESEARCH The Faculty Development Committee, in collaboration with the Centre for Curriculum and Professional Development and Vancouver Community College, is sponsoring a live interactive video teleconference on Teacher-directed Classroom Research for British Co'umbia colleges, institutes, and universities. This innovative faculty development experience presented by Dr. Thomas A. Angelo, will be beamed from Long Beach, California, to the College on Wednesday morning, August 28, 1991. Dr. Angelo is Director of the Centre for Faculty Development at California State University, Long Beach, where he also teaches Political Science. From 1988 to 1990 he was Assistant Director of the Classroom Research Project and a lecturer in Higher Education at UC- Berkeley. Prior to moving to Berkeley, he was Assistant Director of Harvard University’s Seminar on Assessment. Since 1986, K.Patricia Cross and Tom Angelo have written and spoken to college teachers about a simple method to improve the quality of college teaching and learning. Teacher- directed Classroom Research is the approach they have developed to help instructors obtain useful feedback on how «much and how well their students are learning what they are trying to teach. As faculty members practise Classroom Research, they increase their ability to help students become more effective, responsible, and self-directed learners. Each seminar participant will receive a useful handout: Classroom Assessment Techniques: _A Handbook for Faculty by K. Patricia Cross and Tom Angelo. For more information or to register, contact Ruth D’Hollander before the end of May or after August 1. CONGRATULATIONS!
