The Capilano Review Turns 20 The Capilano Review, the college’s interdisciplinary magazine of the arts, matures this year. Twenty years ago, Pierre Coupey, artist, poet, and English & Creative Writing instructor started the rule-breaking little journal and made it shine. Four national magazine awards later (and nominated again this year), TCR is still breaking new ground and winning accolades across the country. The Canada Council has renewed its annual grant and given double the promotion grant it awarded last year to help promote the 20th anniversary. ““This is practically unheard of,” says managing editor Jane Hamilton. “My colleagues at other journals say they’re lucky to get a promotion grant at all, let alone an increase.” Jane says the magazine’s most recent issue, which features B.C. women’s writing, art and photography on the topic of Struggle: Local and Global, promises to be a sell-out. Watch for news about a special reading series in the fall to celebrate the 20th anniversary. For more information, call Jane at 2712. _ People When you see Blake Foss, please call him Lucas. The Special Needs Advisor at ARC has just changed him name. Why Lucas Foss? “The basis for the change is spiritual and a little difficult to explain,” he says. “It’s not a legal change yet. I hope it won’t be too confusing.” The College is losing one of its long-time administrators. Dave Woolley, Registrar, is resigning for personal reasons. Dave began at the College 12 years ago. ““We wish him the best of the best, says Rob Turner, Vice President of Student and In- structional Services. Until a search for a new registrar is com- plete, Associate Registrar Barb Robertson will be Acting Registrar. You can say goodbye to Dave at a special farewell function in the near future. Watch your bulletin board on E-Mail for details of time and place.
