Grads win Awards Several 1984 graduates of the Media Resources Program have won awards In the National Multi-Image Competition for Students sponsored by the Association for Multi-Image of Canada. Dian St. Louise, Linda Hurst and Kharen Hill won the first prize of $250 for ''A Corner of the New World'', a portraft of Vancouver artist Richard Turner. Karen Fredrickson and Barbara Woodley received a $100 cheque as — runners-up for ''Growing Up Female" in which several women reflect upon society's Influences during their lives. Both productions were projects for the slide/ tape production course taught by Bob Cook and Peter Thompson last fall. : Grad gets scholarship Congratulations to former Cap student Frances Thomas of West Vancouver who won a $2,500 UBC Entrance Scholarship this fall. Dunaway returns to Music The Bachelor of Music Program is welcoming back class string instructor Blaine Dunaway. Blaine spent the first 3 months of this year In an advanced music program at Banff Centre School of Fine Arts with VEJI band (Vancouver Ensemble of Jazz Improvisation) playing violin, trumpet and flugelhorn. In the Fall of 1983 he taught theory and arranging at Vancouver's Institute of Communication Arts. He has performed in a number of jazz concerts and clubs Including performances with Dave Holland, David Liebman & Julian Priester, and has also worked with the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra, and in concert with Pro Music. Leskard sculpture goes to Pope A bronze madonna by former Capilano art instructor Stephen Leskard is one of the items which have been selected by the B.C. branch of the Polish Congress of Canada as gifts to the Polish-born Pope John Paul 11. The madonna cast Is about 50 centimeters high and will be, along with the other gifts, on display at the Bayshore Inn lobby on Sept. 16 from 10 am to 10 pm. Leskard is not a Catholic, but his grandfather was the head of the Protestant church In Poland, and he says that he has great respect for the Pope. Leskard resigned as an instructor at Cap this spring after 15 years here. Employee Updates Dave Morgan is the new Technician in the Dynamics lab, working part-time, and Dianella Agostinis is again working in the Media Centre as an Assistant IV, also part time. And in case anyone's been away a long time, Sheree Wall who worked at the front registration desk for eons left the College, and filling in the gap is Myla Waterman. Challenge Cup held here Thanks to the banner across the entrance of the College, it would be hard not to notice that Cap is hosting the Pacific Coast Challenge Cup this weekend, but we thought we'd tell you anyway. The games start Friday at noon on fields at Inter River #2 and 3, Kirkstone and Capilano. Our team will be playing here against Lane Community College. Games continue = on Friday at 4 pm, Saturday at 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm, and the Championship Game on Sunday at noon here.
