Two third-year students from Capilano College’s Tourism Management degree program are the winners of prestigious awards from British Columbia’s business and tourism industries. Jordan Kallman is the recipient of the Pat Corbett Leadership Award from the Council of Tourism Associations. The $3,000 award is given to a student in a B.C. tourism program who has achieved a strong academic standing and has demonstrated leadership in the field of tourism. The 25-year-old is working full-time as a manager of a Vancouver tour company while also attending school full-time. “I’m not quite sure how I do it,” he says, “but when it comes to these kinds of awards it makes it all worthwhile.” This recognition represents the highest award offered to a student by the tourism industry. Pat Corbett, the first president of COTA, presented the award in front of 500 industry leaders at the provincial tourism industry confer- ence held in Penticton in February. Joseph Cooke Joseph Cooke, 23, has received the B.C. Student Entrepreneur of the Year Award sponsored by CIBC and Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurs (ACE).
