Furstenwald awarded plaque "It was a wonderful surprise—I didn't expect it," said Conchita Furstenwald, Cap Spanish instructor. She was talking about the presentation of a plaque to her from the North Vancouver Expo '86 Committee. Signed by Mayors Jack Loucks and Marilyn Baker, it recognizes her work in putting together the North Shore Clay and Fibre Exhibition here at the college in August. Although the exhibit is long over, Furstenwald has been staying active on the local arts scene, having recently been elected to the executive of the North Vancouver Community Arts Council. This non-profit organization, which distributes government funding to arts groups and promotes fine arts on the North Shore, has offices in Presentation House. Keep up the good work, Conchita! . Deggans host class in France Paul and Babette Deggan are once again offering painting and language workshops in their summer home in Montaigut-le-Blanc, France. A medieval hill-village in the Auvergne, Montaigut-le-Blanc is the site of their Summer Centre for the Arts which was established in 1980 and offers classes in conjunction with Cap College. The classes are a unique opportunity to receive instruction while exploring French culture, local cuisine, and wines. The three week Painting workshops and two week Language workshops will be held in June, July and August—for more information call Extension Programs at 2907 and ask for a brochure, or talk to Paul or Babette Deggan at 986-0082. Cafe Christmas hours The last day of operation for the North Campus cafeteria will be Friday, December 12, and it will be closed for a full month until classes resume on January 12. In the interim your only source of Beaver food will be the South Cafe (days only, no evening service between December 12 and January 5). For those of us who will be here over the holidays, they will be open Monday and Tuesday the weeks of December 22 and 29. COLOPHON However sporadically the Informer may appear in your mail, it is still trying valiantly to be a weekly publication, at least during the Fall and Spring terms. This newsletter is published by Information Services, A118, local 2002, and submissions are greeted with joy and delight. Photos are generally taken by Edna Sakata in MPC and prepared for publication by Dave Sharrock. Printing is done by Linda Givens and Dave Callow in the Print Shop, and distribution is handled by the Mail Room/Typing Pool. Most everything else can be blamed on Donna McMahon, but she'll deny it.
