THE INFORMER PAGE 4 OCTOBER 18, 1989 PEO Pee Paul Avery (Psychology) is presently running a two-weekend core training workshop for A.I.D.S. Vancouver volunteers. All volunteers must have this training which focuses on the changing face of A.I.D.S., the needs of clients, the role of volunteers, communication skills, homophobia, illness, death, and dying. The volunteers go on to work as “Buddies”, help line workers, or members of the Speakers’ Bureau. John Fairlie (Business Administration) composed the piece, “Three Piece Suite” which will be played by the group Scaramouche at the October 24 noon hour concert series in H113,1-2p.m. Congratulations to former students Jennifer Harry and Joan Ritchie who won scholarships at UVic this year. Jennifer was awarded the $1000 Alexander, Holburn, Beaudin and Lang scholarship and the $2095 Edwards, Kenny, and Bray Summer Employment Scholarship. Joan won the $2000 ICBC scholarship.
