Vol. XVI No. 11 Dec. 14/94 (em Capilano Informer College Capilano College he announcement of Capilano College’s new president was made on Thursday, November 24. Dr. Greg Lee, who joined the College in 1971 as a faculty member in the Natural Science division, will assume his new role in March 1995. “T am pleased and gratified with the support that has been offered to me following the recent announcement,” Greg says. “I want to thank everyone for their kind words. “The challenge for the College is to continue to provide quality, relevant educational services in times of great change and fiscal restraint. The effects of economic restructuring and technological change are being felt throughout our community. It is a reality that our College, and colleges in general, whose purpose is to provide education and educational services, will be affected by these changes. Our challenge is to make the necessary adjustments so that we continue to be an institution of first choice.” Most recently, Greg, a resident of North Vancouver, has held the position of vice-president, Career and Vocational Programs. He is New President for Dr. Greg Lee active on a number of provincial post- secondary education committees, including the Advanced Education Council of British Columbia and the Open University Academic Council. Greg earned his PhD in Physics in 1972 from the University of British Columbia and has been a lifelong resident of the Lower Mainland. “The College Board is very pleased with the appointment of Dr. Greg Lee,” says Robin Wilson, College Board chair. “We look to the future with pride at being an institute of first choice, and with excitement on entering a new era of change under the leadership of Dr. Lee.” O Employee Assistance is Close at Hand his is a reminder that there is assistance available for College employees requiring personal and emotional support. The services provided by the carrier of the College’s Employee Assistance Plan, Wilson Banwell, are completely confidential. The College is never advised of the names of people using the plan, only the numbers and the problems under general headings. No difficulty is considered too small, and many are handled within one or two sessions. Wilson Banwell recommends the time to call is when a person feels slightly troubled, rather than waiting for a crisis to hit. There is always a therapist on call to provide assistance around the clock. A committee has been set up to monitor the program, make recommendations based on feedback it receives and arrange workshops on issues that affect the College community. The committee is available to answer or find the answers to any questions regarding the plan. Brochures are available from Personnel Services or the Benefits office located on the third floor of the Arbutus building. The committee members are: Judi Fletcher, Daniel Frankel, Conchita Furstenwald, John Potts, Brenda Rovner, and Adele Beaudry. Although a formal survey will probably be conducted in 1995, comments and feedback, anonymous or otherwise, are most welcome. QO
