October 19, 2007 «Title» «FirstName» «LastName» «Position» «Company» «Address» «CityProvCode» Dear «Title» «LastName»: As a valued supporter of Capilano, I wanted to update you on the progress of our pursuit of regional university designation, and at the same time tell you a little bit about the very special enclosed edition of our literary magazine, The Capilano Review. Our CapU team was busy over the summer moving towards a target of 10,000 signatures of endorsement for our regional university campaign. These names will be presented this fall to Government. We also ran two full-page newspaper ads and a radio announcement on CKWX restating our case to become a regional university. Upcoming plans include another visit to Victoria and running a few billboard and transit ads to spread the word in B.C.’s capital about why this initiative is so important. We are truly grateful for your continued support and would like to show our appreciation by sending you a copy of the most recent issue of The Capilano Review. This special Capilano College edition celebrates TCR’s 35-year anniversary, with all contributors being either past or present Capilano faculty, writers-in-residence, or editors. The magazine is distributed in nine countries and has been recognized seven times for excellence by the National Magazine awards, three times by the Western Magazine awards, once by the Journey Prize Awards, and has been cited by the Canadian Studies Association. It has a long history of publishing new and established Canadian writers and artists who are experimenting with or expanding the boundaries of conventional forms and contexts. International writers and artists also appear in its pages. Today, the magazine continues to favour the risky, the provocative, the innovative, and the dissident. Again, thank you very much for your endorsement. You can help us continue to spread the word that Capilano deserves to be designated a regional university by asking your friends and family to lend their support at www.capilanonow.ca. Sincerely, Greg F. Lee, PhD President “Among Canadian literary magazines, The Capilano Review is a leader and a groundbreaker. Its editors have been consistently visionary, its design elegant and its content (both graphic art and literary) breathtaking, provocative, and passionate. It is impossible to imagine the literary culture of Western Canada without the communities of writers and artists the Review has fostered during its astonishing 35-year run.” – Meredith Quartermain, author and founder of the literary website, The News.
