JAN z 9 BRITISH IT'S O U R TIME T O SHINE OurRef. 43575 File: 60500-01/ADPF JAN 2 4 2003 Dr. Greg Lee, President Capilano College 2055 Purcell Way North Vancouver BC V7J3H5 I am writing to provide further information on the implementation of the Degree Authorization Act (DAA) and policy decisions on existing degrees that have been delivered in partnership with degree granting institutions in British Columbia. I am pleased to advise you that the Ministry of Advanced Education is recommending that consent be given to Capilano College to confer in its own name the Bachelor of Music Therapy, the Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies, the Bachelor of Tourism Management, and the Bachelor of Business Administration degrees currently offered in partnership with the Open University. Once the DAA comes into force, and the required Order in Council (OIC) is signed, Capilano College will have the authority to offer these degree programs without undergoing the quality review process. I anticipate that the DAA will come into force in spring 2003 and I will ensure that the required OIC is scheduled for the earliest possible review by Cabinet. This decision reflects the Ministry's recognition that these programs have been offered for some time, and have already undergone a quality review process. I understand Capilano College intends to print its calendar early this year. I f the calendar is going to indicate that these degree programs will be conferred by Capilano College in the future, I suggest inserting a note indicating that the proclamation of the DAA, and the approval of the required OIC, are pending and expected this spring. Please accept my best wishes for success in delivering the Capilano College applied degree programs.
