the October 20, 1986 Volume VIII No. 2! informer_ Cap student wins ACCC national Art Competition Major congratulations are in order for 20 year old Charles Van Sandwyk, graduate of the Commercial Art program, who was one of five winners in the ACCC's "College Arts 1986" competition that wound up in Ottawa on the October 10-12 weekend. 4,000 submissions from 65 colleges were received in the nine month, three-tiered competition and Capilano College came out with two winners—Van Sandwyk, and Art Institute student Margaret Witzsche, who received one of five honourable mentions. "IT am really proud that Capilano College students did so well," said Associate Dean of Careers, Nancy Lynch. "Out of ten possible national awards, Capilano got two." Capilano also had more students in the finals than any other B.C. college— seven out of a total of 143. (This compares to six from the Victoria College of Art, four each from Okanagan and Malaspina, three from VCC, and two from Kwantlen.) Dorothy Jantzen, who is one of two B.C. members on the ACCC Canadian Services Bureau Advisory Committee (which organized the competition) was also delighted with Cap's results. "The West made a really good showing at the national level," she said. "Capilano students did very well in the B.C. regional show in June, and then B.C. students in general did very well in the CONTINUED ... Project Manager Mike Osborne was joined by Karl Schultz, Executive Director of the Chemainus Festival of Murals, and the film on Chemainus, "The Little Town That Did It" was shown.
