Memorial Fund report The Gerrie Turner Memorial Fund it growing beautifully and we want to express sincere appreciation to all those friends who have made donations. The scholarship fund was established so that Gerrie's friends could do something positive to honour her and her contribu- tion to Capilano College over many years of service. The Committee: Ethel Sviatko Pat Babiuk Averil McCreadie WRC gets grant Marsha Trew lobbied the Provincial Govern- ment for a grant, and the result is that the Women's Resource Centre is able to offer some courses and workshops free this fall. The grant from the Ministry of Edu- cation is earmarked for courses which help women return to work or to school. ''Sever- al colleges in B.C. have received this special funding and offer programs similar to those we're giving,'' says Marsha. Anth goes to Mexico in May Many students dream of but few probably realize do that this credits visiting Mexico, that they could summer and earn Anthropology from Capilano College at the same time. The Mexico Field School, a joint effort between Langara and Cap, will be happening in May-June. Students can’ take Latin American Studies 221 (Langara) and Anthropology 249 (Cap) during the stay. The prerequisite is 1st semester College level Spanish or equivalent, with a second semester highly recommended. The field school will drive from Mazatlan to Oaxaca in a partially camperized bus, allowing students to experience a variety of geo- graphic areas and to see the considerable cultural diversity in the various cities, markets, craft villages and archaeological sites en route. Another four weeks will be spent in a guest house in Oaxaca with lec- tures and day trips scheduled. The cost of $2200 includes airfare, transportation in Mexico, shared accommodation for 6 weeks, lectures and tuition, and since students will be taking 9 university transfer cred- its, they will be eligible for loans and bursaries. Some of the cost is also tax deductible. The instructors will be Karen Lind, from the College and Margo Chapman from VCC, who is also an anthropology in- structor.
