Notice of Accreditation Visit and Opportunity for Comment The absence of a formal, national system of accreditation for post-secondary education providers in Canada makes it challenging to obtain a clear picture of how quality is assured at both the institutional and program levels. Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials Council of Ministers of Education, Canada Neither Canada nor British Columbia has a formal system of post-secondary accreditation. As a result students, particularly international students, have no internationally accepted measure of quality assurance when attending Canadian institutions. Therefore, Capilano College, as part of its ongoing commitment to excellence, is seeking formal accreditation from the United States. This is an intensive and long-term process with many stages that must be compJeted before full accreditation is granted. Capilano College will host a comprehensive evaluation visit for consideration of Candidacy to the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) on October 24-26, 2007. The purpose of the visit is to address how Capilano College determines its educational effectiveness with a view toward eventual full accreditation with the NWCCU. Capilano's Application for Consideration for Candidacy was approved by the NWCCU in 2004. Since then, the College has been engaged in a comprehensive self-study, which will be the focus of the October visit. Members of the public are invited to send signed comments on Capilano's application for candidacy directly to: Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities 8060 165th Avenue N.E., Redmond, WA 98052. U.S.A. Telephone: (425) 558-4224 The deadline for comments is September 24, 2007. All signed comments will be forwarded to Capilano College and the evaluation committee by the NWCCU.
