——$——- the Volume IX No. 1 January 19, 1987 informer Back for another year... Welcome to the 156th harried issue of the Informer, your more-or-less weekly information sheet since 1979. This is a short issue for the simple reason that your editor is also trying to work on the calendar. Coming up in the next issue (if the patron saint of people-who-keep-their- fingers-in-dikes permits) will be information on how our exchange students are doing in Japan, a look at what happens to ABE students when they've finished that program, and VARIOUS OTHER ITEMS which YOU WILL BE SENDING IN over the next week. I was also intending (my personal road to hell is looking like a super highway) to run the infamous 'guess who the babies are' contest. Would the people involved (you know who you are) get off your butts and get your photos in ASAP. Send Informer submissions to Information Services, 2002. Black and white photos more than welcome. Hughes gives tip to United Way One of the themes of this year's United Way campaign was to "give like you've never given before" and certainly Ken Hughes lived up to that sentiment, though not perhaps intentionally. Ken lost the tip of his finger building a hobby horse which he donated as a prize to the United Way draw, and then to pile (literally) insult on top of injury, his donation was left off the list of prizes published in the last issue of the Informer. "I would like to offer a thousand apologies" said Lynne Hamilton, sounding suitably mortified and chastened. "IT would like to say that Ken gave more than enough." Dorothy Webb was the winner of the hobby horse; meanwhile rumour has it that it will be quite some time before Lynne dares to "finger" Ken for another contribution. by Dave Maclagan Travels to tempt anyone Whether your idea of a great vacation is to explore the many attractions of a big city, to take a cruise to exotic foreign lands, or to relax with a glass of wine in the French countryside, Extension programs has a travel program for you. The 7th annual Capilano College trip to New York City will be taking place from May 11-21, and if you'd like to learn more about it, there is an information meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 27 at 7:30 pm in H402. This year's leaders are Art instructor — Rose Naumann (back for her sixth time) and long time English instructor Pierre Coupey. And, on the itinerary of the visit are all of the highlights from previous years—the United Nations, Metropolitan Museum, Bronx CONTINUED ... t= Capilano college
