Schubert’s
Birthday
Celebrated in
Style

he Bachelor of Music Transfer

program is looking forward to its
term end choral concert featuring
Schubert’s Mass in C, in celebration of
the 200th anniversary of his birth.
Schubert wrote this beautifully lyrical
work at the youthful age of 19. Also
featured will be the Haydn masterpiece,
the Lord Nelson Mass, which was
written in his last compositional period.
It was in this last stage of his work that
he created his choral masterworks, such
as The Creation and The Seasons, as
well as the Mass that is being prepared.

The Capilano College Community
Choir and Capilano College Singers
will be performing with professional
-orchestra, drawing from many of the
College faculty as well as from well-
known ensembles from the Lower
Mainland, such as the Vancouver
Symphony Orchestra, Canadian
Broadcasting Corporation, and the
Vancouver Opera Association. The
vocal soloists are among the most
exciting young singers in Western
Canada, three of whom are former
Capilano College music students.
Phoebe MacRae sings soprano,
Megan Latham alto, Christopher
Doran tenor, and Jonathan Liebich
bass baritone.

Cecilia Ensemble Women’s Choir
will begin the concert with a selection
of works by Canadian composers,
featuring Nancy Telfer and Barrie
Cabena.

The concert takes place on Sunday,
April 6 at 3 p.m. in North Vancouver’s
Centennial Theatre. Tickets are
available from the theatre box office at
984-4484, the Music Department at
984-4951, and from choir members.
General admission is $20; students and
seniors $15.
