The Informer Page 8 June 1, 1989 Informer Readership Survey: what you said Thanks to the 67 people who took the time to fill out the survey. They contained a lot of useful information, which should enhance future Informers if the editor pays any attention at all. Generally, the Informer is read cover to cover (75% responded yes to this). Almost all (91%) agreed that it is the right length, and everyone said they enjoyed the writing style (100%). 55% thought that it should come out bi-weekly, while 33% felt monthly was adequate. The editor says she'll continue to do it when she feels like it, though bi- weekly sounds about right to her now. This seemed to work last fall until the calendar came around and she fell apart. Send wine, sympathy cards, and pre-written articles, and it might come out more than once-a-month through January and February. The most popular features were about College people, followed by reviews of events and features about programs. Some suggestions for other types of articles include: letters to the editor (so, write already!), more information on the Sunshine Coast and Howe Sound centres, current gossip (do you want names and will you pay legal fees?), news about other colleges and post- secondary issues in general. There appear to be no problems with the current format, although 24% want to see more cartoons. Here’s where we boast. “I like the Informer just as it is. It covers a broad spectrum of topics and interests for all. Keep up the good work. It’s an excellent tool for communication.” “Look forward to reading it. Adds a personal touch to the college atmosphere.” “Love the Informer. Best internal newsletter I’ve seen!” “As a Board member, I consider the Informer an excellent source of information as to what’s happening at Cap. Keep up the good work.” “Thanks very much for including me on your mailing list—although I haven’t worked full-time at Cap for five years, I do keep in touch and love getting informed.” All quotes were paid for in full at time of publication. Now, what everyone has been waiting for... The dinner winner for two at the Cannery Seafood Restaurant (value up to $60) is Jane Hamilton, editor of the Informer. Thank you to CHQM AM/FM who so kindly donated the dinner prize. Jane will be thrilled. The winner of the $25 Jake O’Grady bucks (kindly donated by Lance Fletcher) is, wait, for it.... Judi Fletcher. Judi will be dining and drinking alone on her J O’G money in the fond hope of attracting a certain tall blonde who runs that bar. The official draw winners are: Ruth D’Hollander (ARC)}—dinner at the Cannery, and Susan Bell (North Shore Enterprise Development Centre)—Jake O’Grady Bucks. Come by the P.R. office to discuss their prizes with Jane and Judi, who generally are reasonable people. Try bribery. Now, the most important part. (Written by Bev Greene and not edited one little bit) One last note. The quality of the Informer is a result of the talent, hard work and perseverance of writer, designer and keyboarder Jane Hamilton. Credit also goes to Edna Sakata for photography, Dave Sharrock for very rapid photo screening and Linda Givens, Dave Callow and Jan Propp in the Printshop for consistently turning this job around in record time. Thank you all. — Bev Greene Several former producers of College newsletters band together for mutual support, sympathy, and the odd day out
