On a cheerful note (heavy sarcasm intended here), Dr. Parkinson, chairman of the SFU Board recently said that the housing crisis facing students right now is as serious as that which faced UBC immediately after the war when ''temporary'’ army huts were brought in to ease the situation and house returning veterans. Taking a look through the rentals section of the North Shore News puts a further depressing perspective on the problem--I nearly choked to discov- er that one bedroom apartments are START- ING at $400 a month! Understandably Cap's housing person, Gail, is having a difficult time of it with far more requests than available (and affordable) places. If you know of a place to rent, please contact her at local 277 -- she'll have no problem finding an inhabitant for it. Cex 1 Also busy around the campus. this summer have been four fine arts students--Shannon Browne, Janet Wilson, Susan Kosh and Wayne Arsenault. They haven't been taking any courses, though -- they're on a YEP grant doing a research project. By the end of August what the team should have is a com- prehensive guide for fine arts students with information in it on where to get good books and films about art, where to shop for painting supplies, where students can get paintings hung free, what compan- ies in Vancouver have art collections and how one can get to see them and even how to get started with galleries. They are also compiling a library of art school ca- lenders from North and South America, and farther afield. Right now they're working on tips for travelling to and staying in Seattle on a students! budget (exhibits go there that don't make it to Vancouver) - a bit of information that many departments might find useful. If you'd like to get in touch with them, look for the Fine Arts Research Team at local 384, but don't call them by their acronym. ea | CONWAY'S LAW In any organization there will always be one person who knows what is going on. In case you haven't noticed the Business Management ''pet rock!! that used to be on the lawn in front of the NB Building is missing. It was stolen, you see. It seems that the BTSD students removed it from the lawn just before grad- uation (I have no idea how), but they are now waiting fimpatientiy for the Business Management students to get back for the fall to continue the dramatic hostage tak~ ing incident. BTSD students, by the way, are here all year round. They have two classes running now, both full: to the brim with a slight turnover as some finish and others join. During the quiet season here when there are no rocks to steal they en- gage in other activities such as the traditional volleyball tournament against the Quebec exchange students. | suspect, From the fact that they didn't mention the winners, that they lost again this summer.
