Ce iano te Colese Informer Health Styles Are You Prepared for the “Big One"? Earthquake preparedness is a hot topic lately with everyone exchang- ing tips about survival-kit contents and household changes to earth- quake-proof the home. Experts tell us we should be prepared to look after ourselves for the first 72 hours following a major disaster. Disruptions can be ex- pected in services such as electricity, natural gas, phone, water and sewer. Travelling around the North Shore and to Vancouver may be difficult, since some of our bridges will probably be out of service. We are advised to be prepared by developing a family plan so every- one knows what to do and where to go in an emergency. There are many courses and much information available to help you set up your own family plan. The North and West Vancouver Emergency Program has prepared a comprehen- sive pamphlet “Prepare now for an Earthquake in B.C.” Included are instructions on what to do before, during and after a quake. If you would like one of these pamphlets or a more comprehensive list of preparedness instructions, call Health Services at loc. 2964. To help prepare home first aid and survival kits, we also have lists of articles that should be included. If anyone is interested in purchasing a preparedness kit, the Product Distribution Centre is offering a Basic Emergency Kit, Basic First Aid Kit and an Emergency Backpack for employee purchase. Anyone inter- ested in a price list and list of con- tents may call Health Services, loc. 2964. More information about earth- quakes is in the Metro Vancouver Phone Book, page 28.
