turns 30

The Capilano College Foundation
is celebrating its 30th anniversary
with a series of events in March
and a major capital campaign
initiative. The 18-month,

$5 million campaign will raise
funds for a new international
centre to be located on the
proposed fourth floor of the
Library building, a new computer-
ized assisted language lab for
the ESL department, technology
for the libraries of the three
campuses, plus a technology
endowment fund. For more

The learning
desktop

Capilano College has develope
new course management so
called the Learning Desktop
software, three years in the making,
was released this past summer at the
College and is currently being used
in about 60 classroom delivery,
mixed mode and distance learning
courses. The College's Educational
Technology Resource Centre began
developing the software to address
what user testing at the College
determined to be deficiencies in

the user-friendliness of current
off-the-shelf offerings. Student
confusion led Ed Tech manager,
Chris Gratham, and Web technician,
Al Hovden, to make user-interface
design a priority in the development
of the Learning Desktop. For more
