November 15/96 Paddi Arthur apilano College’s Board of Governors have elected a new chair and vice chair to serve for the coming year. Patricia (Paddi) Arthur, a Board member since 1991, was elected chair. Paddi is a partner with the law firm Bradbrooke, Crawford and Green, where she specializes in family law and family law mediation. Prior to her career in law, she was a teacher with the West Vancouver School Board from 1975 to 1984 and president of the West Vancouver Teachers’ Association from 1980 to 1982. A West Vancouver resident, Paddi is a member and former board member of the West Coast LEAF (Legal Education and Action Fund). North Vancouver resident Naomi Yamamoto, a Board member since 1995, was elected vice chair. Naomi is the owner of Lasercolor Design and Printing in North Vancouver. She is a director of the North Shore Neighbourhood House and first vice- president of the B.C. Chamber of Commerce. “The Board of Capilano College is looking forward to the opening of several new facilities that have been under construction at the North Vancouver campus,” says Paddi. “This October marks the opening of the new Child Care Centre, which will provide space for 76 infants, toddlers, and pre- school aged children. In the spring of 1997, the College will hold opening ceremonies for its new $20 million student services and instructional New Members Appointed to Capilano College Board of Governors facility. This building will house a 350- seat performance theatre, providing our students and communities with a fully- equipped modern facility. “We have also re-evaluated our College mission statement, which strengthens our focus on the more than 6,000 credit and 6,000 non-credit students who are presently enrolled in academic, career and vocation programs. The Board, working with College administration, faculty and staff, will continue to play a vital role in ensuring that programs and facilities will be provided to contribute to the future growth of our students and our communities.” Widening its community of representation, the Board welcomes three new members: Richard Band, who resides in Vancouver’s West End; Burnaby resident Severin Morin; and, Vancouver resident Sylvia Sioufi. Returning Board members include Gibsons resident Ernie Tjensvold, Sam Weller, who lives in Sechelt, student representatives Ross Bliss and Jenn Pearce, and Mark Battersby and Laraine Hamilton, representing the faculty and staff, respectively. Capilano College serves the Lower Mainland, Howe Sound and the Sunshine Coast through campuses in North Vancouver, Squamish and Sechelt. ACCC member institutions may submit one nomination per category. Nominations must be received by the ACCC Secretariat no later than December 6, 1996.
