A First for B.C. at Cap Beginning this fall, there is a new and unique computing program on campus, with yet another set of initials for everyone to get straight. S.C.A.T. stands for the Scientific Computing Applications Technology Program, and this is the only two year program in B.C. that is primarily oriented to technical software development and applications. SCAT is the brainchild of Bob Verner, Ted Bentley and other instructors in the Natural Sciences division. It is a two year program, but the emphasis is academic and the major part of the program is university transferable. In SCAT students will learn to use their academic and programming skills to solve problems of a scientific nature. Graduates will be qualified to work in many areas, for instance as programmers or junior analysts CONTINUED Meet the winners of this year's B.C. Campbell wins writing grant This is the story of a very interesting book which doesn't exist yet. ''Demon Rum or Easy Money: The Evolution of Provincial Liquor Laws Since World War One'' is the current title of the popular historical book to be written by Robert Campbell of the History department. Campbell has just received a $10,000 grant from the Canadian Secretary of State. As it will take no convincing for anyone to readily belive, Canadian liquor laws in various provinces have some very peculiar idiosyncracies and have had some even odder ones in the past.
