Schools SIR: Further to the drug problem at Capilano College. Let's be fair and not single out M r . Glenesk as our scapegoat. This drug situation exists not only in Capilano College but in other schools as well. M r . Glenesk says that " I f people would come to me, r a t h e r than the newspapers perhaps we could get some where." This p r o b l e m concerns us a l l . The newspapers have the means of reaching the greatest number of people and the more people we have involved in this business, the better. As for dress. M r . Glenesk says, "Staff are examined on the basis of the job they are hired to do. " I think i t should be a stipulation of a teacher's employment that he or she dress suitably and I mean, neatly and conservatively. After a l l , teachers should set an example to their students. They w i l l t r y to emulate a teacher they admire. I n addition, inappropriately dressed teachers are a poor reflection on the school and c e r t a i n l y do not inspire the respect of their students. It has been shown in the past that the P'JA is poorly attended and possibly the same would apply to public meetings. This is where the Press comes i n . What better means of communication can we have? P e r h a p s they c o u l d devote a weekly column to our educational system. The School Board could keep us up to d a t e on w h a t p r o g r a m s a r e b e i n g instituted, parents and teachers could air their views and complaints and a few good a r t i c l e s by educators could be included. Let's hear f r o m students as well. I w o u l d l i k e t o say t h a t m a n y programs instituted by the School Board are excellent. I am thinking particularly of the one in music. As parents I think we should arouse ourselves from apathy and do something c o n c r e t e about the c o r r u p t i o n and permissiveness that does exist. Let's employ more discipline and emphasize sports and good health rules. Nothing is perfect but let us strive for i t . Teachers, Principals, The School Board, officials of Government and community affairs parents . . . A L L are responsible. Let's start talking about i t , w r i t i n g about i t and using the Press as our medium of communication. (Mrs.) M . Meier.
