THE INFORMER PAGE 3 DECEMBER 3, 1991 Designing instructors featured in cross-Canada tour Marion Llewellyn and John Long, both instructors in the Graphic Design & Illus- tration Program, were recently featured in the Graphic Designers of Canada exhibit, which started in Vancouver and travelled to Montreal. One of Marion’s pieces was singled out for an award of Design Excel- lence. Both instructors own a design consul- tancy which has received more than 100 awards over the past 10 years . Their work has been shown in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Toronto and Paris. John Long’s il- — lustration and Marion’s design were pro- & filed in Germany’s leading design magazine, Novum Gerbrausgraphik, and printed in five languages. Marion has been a guest lecturer at the University of Alberta. She has also lectured to professional designers and illustrators at the Robson Square Media Centre. John is working for a new business about to open in Poland. Marion is producing graphic design for the Centre for the Arts, Simon Fraser University. Their clients range from individuals to large corporations. The faculty of Graphic Design & Illustration nomi- nated Marion to attend a four-day conference at the Schooi of Visual Arts in New York City in late October. The conference, titled “Liberal Arts and the Education of Artists,” allowed participants to exchange ideas and information on the education of artists. In- structional Management at its last meeting changed the dates for the in-person registration and the start date for classes. Jump into Spring at the Sportsplex If you want to get rid of all the bulges you didn’t have before Christmas and in shape for April’s sun- shine, come to the Sportsplex. . Aerobics and stretch-and-tone classes begin Jan. 20. For $25, fitness enthusiasts can enrol in as many as eight classes per week, for 10 weeks. This is a great deal compared to fitness classes at other facilities. Sport- splex classes will be taught by some of the best instruc- tors in the business. Sign up at the Sportsplex between now and Jan. 17 for the work-out of your life. To put a little more punch in your fitness regimen, try registering for karate classes. Intermediate classes will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. Introductory classes will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Each 12-session course costs $25 and runs from Jan. 20 to Feb 26. If team sports are more your cup of tea, try one of the Spring Term Intramural Leagues. Sign up for basketball, badminton, indoor soccer or volleyball. You can form your own team or register as an individual and be placed on a team requiring extra players. The cost is $7 per player, $5 of which is refundable if your team does not default on any games.
