Coat Cooke ArtisticDirector NOW BELIEVES IN THEORALTRADITIONOF IMPROVISEDMUSIC Improvised music is a largely oral tradition. We teach others about improvised music through free workshops, intensive workshops, school outreach and community outreach. We help musicians learn and build a complex vocabulary of improvisational language, techniques, compositional structures to work within and a variety of influences from a number of traditions and cultures, enabling them to develop their own voice as an improviser, playing together in small and large ensembles, and engaging in collaborations with other artistic traditions like dance, visual media and spoken word. ABOUTORKESTRA FUTURA Evolved from the internationally renowned NOW Orchestra, our new ensemble Orkestra Futura follows the NOW mandate - to create structures and develop the values that allow improvisers to express themselves in a coherent and powerful way.
