Cap unames new president Greg Lee hands off to sociology professor Kris Bulcroft in August JaneSeyd jseyd@nsnews.com A former Fulbright scholar who has researched extensively on family life and aging has been named as the next president of Capilano University. Kris Bulcroft, a PhD who is currently vice-president for academic affairs at Franklin College in Switzerland, will take up the top job at the university in August. Bulcroft replaces outgoing president Greg Lee, who will retire in July after 39 years at Capilano University, including 15 years as president. Bulcroft received her PhD from the University of Minnesota and had a distinguished 20-year career at Western Washington University, serving as a professor of sociology as well as vice-provost for undergraduate education until 2008 when she joined Franklin College. She has published widely on issues relating to family and aging, and has worked as a research scientist at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. Bulcroft is also a recipient of several Fulbright Awards for research and teaching in Canada and Slovakia. A consulting company that worked with Capilano University's board of governors chose Bulcroft after an international search. Bulcroft said her primary goal as president will be to position Capilano as one of the world's top teaching universities. She added the university's strong ties to the community place it in a unique position to meet a variety of challenges. About 7,500 students are enrolled in credit programs each term at the university's three campuses, in North Vancouver, Squamish and Sechelt.
