Ondaatje to read Michael Ondaatje, author of Coming Through Slaughter, Secular Love, and, most recently, /n the Skin of a Lion, will be reading on campus on Friday, October 2. Anyone interested is welcome to come and listen in the faculty/staff lounge (H402) from 8 to 9 pm. Instructor receives award Labour Studies instructor Paul Petrie, who has taught at Cap since 1982, was one of only five people in Canada chosen for the Corpus Certificate of Merit awarded during Occupational Health and Safety Week in June. The Corpus awards “recognize the work of Canada’s unsung heroes...who have made valuable contributions to the occupational health and safety field." Among Petrie’s contributions to occupational health and safety in this country are numerous publications and the development of innovative courses in Industrial Disease and Disability Pensions, and he has taught standard WCB appeals and advanced labour advocate appeals. Labour Studies evening and weekend courses start in October, and Petrie will be teaching a course in November on Repetitive Motion and Back Injury Appeals. BEWARE OF TOWTRUCKS! Our faithful Payless parking patrol will be back on Monday, October 5, and any illegally parked vehicles will be removed at the owners’ very painful and inconvenient expense. Should your car go missing while in a fire zone, the procedure is to call Payless at 988-4176 and make arrangements with the dispatcher to either meet the towtruck driver at the compound (at 3rd and Lloyd), or to have the driver, if available, pick you up outside the North Cafe. The charge is $30, plus $5 storage per each additional day. You can pay by cash, VISA or Mastercard, but NOT by cheque. Got questions? Need a parking permit? Call Ken: Hughes at 2962. And watch where you park! Apparently some people from the College have been parking in the Jaycee House parking lot. (Jaycee House is the small meeting hall on Lillooet just south of the stables.) The Jaycees don’t appreciate this and have issued a warning that cars parking there for other than Jaycee House business will be towed. Beware!
