A part of our continuing development project with the Open University of Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, Capilano College will have two visiting faculty members on campus during the fall 1994 term. This is the same institution which is providing in-country language training to Asia Pacific Management 9 Cooperative Program associates in Vietnam and where last year’s two visiting professors came from. This year’s instructors are Professor lhe Squamish Nation has established a permanent bursary endowment with the Capilano College Foundation to be known as the Yataltanault (Carole Newman) Bursary. The purpose of the bursary is to assist a student in the Business Administration program at the College who is a member of the Squamish Nation and a single parent. The bursary has been established in memory of Carole Anne Newman (Yatalt-Nault). Carole wrote her final exam for the Merchandising Management program on April 23, 1991. Following the exam, she was admitted with severe headaches to Lions Gate Hospital, where she died the following day. Hilary Clark, a merchandising program coordinator at the time, taught the active community member for two years. Hilary said: “... she came in Nguyen Huu Than, manager of the Business English Program in the Business Management ol Faculty at the University, and Professor Dinh Trong Khang, who will be undertaking course planning in distance education. Both are fluent in English and will be available to meet with and speak to the incoming APMCP associates. Also visiting the North VIETNAM Vancouver campus this fall will be Canadian Deputy High Commissioner in Canberra, Mr. Gardiner Wilson. He will be here in October and is, as last year, prepared to speak to the APMCP class. O Ho Chi Minh City Bursary Fund Established in Memory of Former Student with a certain amount of apprehension . . . watching her develop and grow and just kind of take charge of her life, really was the inspiration.” Carole was coordinator of the Squamish Nation Youth Council, assisted members of the Squamish Nation Elder’s Council, was a member of the North Vancouver Lions Club, and operated her own consulting firm. In addition to the Yataltanault (Carole Newman) Bursary, the Squamish Nation has also established the Squamish Nation Scholarship. Through the support of individuals and groups such as the Squamish Nation, the Capilano College Scholarship and Bursary Awards program assists more than 400 students in continuing their studies and achieving their educational goals.
