2002 B.C. baseball champions Baseball champs Submitted by Dave Empey/Milt Williams The Capilano College Blues won the B.C. College baseball champi- onship on Wednesday, May 16 at Nat Bailey Stadium. Brilliant pitching led the Blues to a pair of shutout victories as they blanked Douglas College 1-0 and 6-0 to sweep the best-of-three conference final. “We've had great pitching all season,” said Blues coach Dave Empey, “but to throw 18 innings of shutout baseball in a doubleheader is extraordinary.” The Blues, who are in their first season of college baseball, finished with a 27-15 overall record. They won 12 of their last 14 games, including five out of six in the playoffs. “These guys had a tremendous year,” Dave says. “They worked hard and made a commitment.” Six Blues were selected for the B.C. College all-star game, which was held in Parksville. They include Mark Roberts, Aleksi Suo, Sean Hotzak, Andrew Koop, Jeff St. Pierre and Phil Kinninmont.
