The EDAM SUMMER
INTENSIVE
2004 is
intended for experienced dancers wanting to expand
their skills and knowledge through an intensive period
of research, practice and performance. The workshop
will use a multi-faceted approach to training based on
the correlation between the techniques of contemporary
dance, contact and improvisation. Classes will be
offered on a daily basis at an advanced level in each of
these techniques.
In a series of evening classes, instructors will provide an
environment
to facilitate the investigation
of
improvisation as performance. Workshop participants
will take part as both performers and audience,
drawing upon their stage experience to focus on issues
of commitment and composition, craft and perception.
This workshop includes two formal performances:
The Echo Case show, featuring improvisation by the
workshop's instructors and a second show featuring
performances by workshop participants.

This workshop is intended for professional and
pre-professional dancers. Interested applicants are
requested to submit a CV (e-mail only-send to
info@edamdance.org) a letter of reference (including
the phone number of the person writing the letter) and
a $200 non-refundable deposit (this money will be
refunded only if the applicant is not accepted).

Andrew de L. Harwood has been dancing for over
25 years and has developed a reputation as an
outstanding choreographer, performer, improviser and
teacher. In the nineties, he has been a regular guest at
numerous improvisation festivals worldwide, where he
has both performed and taught. In 2002, he founded
his own company, AH HA Productions.

Coat Cooke is a composer/instrumentalist and the
founder of Canada's leading large improvising
ensemble, the NOW Orchestra. He is currently the
Artistic Director of this group, which has numerous
CD releases. Coat has worked with dance for over ten
years, both composing for set choreography and
improvising in live performances.

THEFACULlY

Peter Bingham is an accomplished improviser and
teacher of Contact Improvisation. For over 25 years he
has performed and taught at numerous festivals,
workshops, universities and colleges across Canada and
abroad. He is the Artistic Director of EDAM, a
Vancouver based company that creates, performs and
produces choreographed shows and improvisations.
Marc Boivin began his dance career at Le Groupe
de la Place Royale in Ottawa under the directorship of
Peter Boneham. In 1985 he joined Ginette Laurin and
her newly formed company O Vertigo Danse, touring
expensively in festivals across Canada, the United States
and Europe. An independent dancer since 1991, he
has performed the work of many choreographers, most
notably Louise Bedard, Sylvain Emard, Jean-Pierre
Perrault, Catherine Tardif and Tedd Robinson. A
teacher of technique and interpretation, he has been
affiliated with Les Ateliers de Danse Moderne de
Montreal for the past fourteen years and regularly guest
teaches in schools and companies across Canada.

Robert Meister's background includes technical
theatre and lighting design as well as improvisation in
dance and theatre. He has extensive experience
creating lighting for improvised performances,
including many Fringe productions and numerous
dance shows at EDAM and in other theatres in
Vancouver and across Canada.
Ron Samworth is a high profile presence on the
Vancouver improvised/contemporary music scene. His
multi-disciplinary
work includes composition,
performance, sound design for theatre, spoken work,
film and a long-time collaboration with EDAM. He is
the founder of the internationally
acclaimed
improvisation ensemble, Talking Pictures.

Throughout the intensive, participants
available Monday-Friday 9:30am-9pm.

Each participant must come prepared to present a 3
minute solo on opening day, either improvised or
choreographed.
The cost of EDAM SUMMER INTENSIVE 2004
is $700 plus GST (total $749). Payment in full is due
thefirst day of class.
