Former Capilano College women’s basketball coach, Greg Zavediuk, has been hired as assistant head coach with Brandon University’s Bobcats women’s basketball team. While with Capilano College, Greg’s teams advanced to the playoffs in each of his four seasons. His 1996-97 team reached the British Columbia College’s Athletic Association conference finals. That same year he was honoured as the Basketball B.C. college coach of the year, as well as the BCCAA women’s basketball coach of the year. We wish Greg the best of luck in his prestigious new coaching position. Paul Chiarenza has been appointed as the head coach of the College’s women’s varsity basketball program, replacing Greg Zavediuk. Paul joins Capilano College after coaching the senior girls’ basketball program at Kitsilano High School. While there, he led them from obscurity to a fifth place finish in the triple A high school provincial championships and four consecutive Vancouver city championships. Along with his duties as the head coach of the Blues, Paul is also dedicating this summer to coaching the U-17 Vancouver girls select team. Good luck and welcome, Paul! Opportunity for free publicity Cer College will be publishing its annual report in the Sunday, September 26 issue of the North Shore News. If space allows, a calendar of campus events for the month of October will be included. If you plan on holding that month an information session, parent or student event, grad show, department tour, sports event, alumni reunion or anything that would require publicity, please contact communications liaison, Shelley Kean, in the Community Relations department at local 7596 no later than July 16. Or, e-mail her at skean@capcollege.bc.ca. She will ensure that your event is included in the calendar of events section of the 1998/99 annual report. However, this is an optional section that will only be printed if there is enough space in the newspaper insert. In the past, the annual report has been used predominately by the College Foundation and was distributed to donors, partners, and potential donors and partners of the College. In an effort to reach a wider audience, this year the College will publish a four-page centrefold annual review, which will appear in the North Shore News. It will be distributed to more than 62,000 households. There will also be an overrun printed for promotional use by the College. The Foundation has plans to include its annual report in a new publication that will replace the former alumni newsletter, almamatters. It is scheduled to be produced in September, as well. @nformer
