EDAM presents February 6 & 7, 2009 PROGRAM Unwinding Performed by Peter Bingham, Chris Aiken, Coat Cooke (Saxophone), Clyde Reed (Bass), James Proudfoot (lighting) Coat Cooke Coat is one of Canada's most lyrical and inventive saxophonists, composers and improvisors. Over the last twenty five years, he has written over one hundred works that include music for piano, saxophone quartet, guitar, flute, chamber groups and large ensembles. Coat's work spans working with multi-media, dance, electronics, video and film, and he has produced nine CDs and many concerts. He is the founder and leader of the renowned NOW Orchestra and with them he has toured Canada, Europe and the USA, performing in clubs and major festivals. Coat's collaborations include work with international artists George Lewis, Wadada Leo Smith, Roscoe Mitchell, Butch Morris, Barry Guy, Marilyn Crispell, Amina Claudine Myers, Wayne Horvitz, Bobby Previte and with fellow Canadians artists Rene Lussier, Pierre Tanguay, Martin Tetreault, John Oswald, Diane Labrosse and Paul Plimley. For twelve years he was the resident Technical Director of the Firehall Arts Centre. James has contributed lighting designs for many local dance and theatre companies. Clyde Reed Chris Aiken Chris is a leading international teacher and performer of dance improvisation and contact improvisation. Over the past two and a half decades his work has evolved through ongoing investigations of performance, composition, movement technique and design. His work has been significantly influenced through the somatic practice of the Alexander Technique, ideokinesis, yoga and the work of Ida Rolf. Chris has performed and collaborated with many renowned dance artists including Steve Paxton, Kirstie Simson, Nancy Stark Smith, Peter Bingham, Andrew Harwood, Ray Chung and Angie Hauser. He is a Guggenheim Fellow and an Assistant Professor at UrsinusCollege. Peter Bingham Peter began dancing in 1975. Histeachers include Linda Rubin, Nancy Stark Smith, Steve Paxton and Dianne Miller. In 1982 he co-founded EDAM, the company he has directed since 1989. He has been creating choreographies and improvising performances for over thirty years. Clyde has enjoyed long-term musical collaborations with internationally known artists including Rob Blakeslee, Vinny Golia, Rich Halley, George Lewis, Paul Plimley, and Claude Ranger. He is a founding member of the New Orchestra Workshop Orchestra Society.
