Capilano College’s 20-piece jazz ensemble won first place in the open, category at the New Westminster Hyack Jazz Festival March 11. They have been invited to attend the national competition in Calgary for Music Fest ’88 late in May, and it “looks like” they'll have the funding to attend, says Commercial Music instructor, Mike Reveley. “We'll bus in and bicycle out — whatever it takes,” he says. Cap’s ensemble beat out stage bands from all over B.C., includingtwo groups from Douglas College, two from Vancouver Community College and one from Malaspina. If no one sees you eat, it has no calories. 2. If you drink a diet soda with a candy bar, they will cancel each other out. 3. Calories don’t count if you eat . with someone and you both eat the same amount. 4, Food taken for medicinal purposes does not count. This includes hot chocolate, brandy, toast, Sara Lee chocolate cake. 5. If you fatten up everyone around you, you'll look thinner. 6. Snacks consumed in a movie do not count as they are part of the entertainment. For example: milkshakes, popcorn with butter, red licorice and M&Ms. 7. Pieces of cookies contain no calories. The process of breaking causes calorie leakage. 8. Late-night snacks have no calories. The refrigerator light is not strong enough for the calories to see their way to the calorie counter. 9. Frozen food has no calories, as a calorie is a measure of the heat in food. BMI causes Panic A Square in the Denominator Does Not Mean You Are Going to Die Judging by the number of calls the PR office has received on the BMI measurement system run in the last Informer, there are several people on campus who either need to see a mortician or mathematician. NOTE: Square the denominator whether you are using metric or imperial measure. The confusion arose from the translation of pounds and inches to metric — it was not intended as part of the equation. Ring Finds Owner The Lost and Found notice in the last Informer did its job, and the owner of the errant ring dropped by to let us know that getting it back had "made her day”.
