Letter from Jampaling was chosen as a finalist at the prestigious Yorkton Film Festival this spring. Shot on location in Northern Nepal, the film depicts the struggle of a group of Tibetan refugees News from Media Resources Two Media Resources students, Byron Drinkle (left) and Jason Brown (right), won third prize overall in the B.C. Student Film and Video Festival. The talented duo also won the cinematography prize, topping a field of more than 250 entries from all post- secondary and senior secondary institutions in the province. The winning production, entitled Windsurfer, tells the story of Ray Bethel, senior citizen and champion kite flyer par excellence. living in the shadow of the Himalayas in the village of Jampaling. Funded by British Columbia Film and the Canadian Independent Film and Video Fund, the production is to be broadcast this spring. Media Resources students recently hosted a premier party for their newly completed series, From Under the Maple segments featuring Canadian National Leaf. The series of six programs considers what it means to be Canadian and includes Soccer Team coach Bob Lenarduzzi, folksinger Valdy, and College faculty members Paul Mier and George Rammell. Look for Under the Maple Leaf on Shaw Cable and Rogers Cable. U rank Gelin, vice-president, Academic Studies, has accepted a secondment as executive director of - the B.C. Council on Admissions and Transfer, effective October 1, 1994. He is looking forward to an interesting and challenging year. Congratulations to John Pass, Adult Basic Education coordinator in Sechelt, who had three poems published recently. He also won second prize in the League of Canadian Poets’ National Poetry contest last spring. People on Campus Jennifer Scott, Capilano College music instructor, has recorded a jazz CD titled Interactive. She has received good reviews in the Vancouver Sun and the Georgia Straight. Jennifer and her band have also been featured in interviews on CBC and will be appearing on CKNW in the near future. Other band members include Chris Sigerson on piano, Dylan VanderSchyff on drums, Ross Taggart on tenor sax, and Rene Worst (former faculty member) on bass. ——————————————————— SSS Copies of the release are available through Jennifer for $15.
