the Art Show in Lounge now The Studio Art students have opened their first annual student show. Organized, juried and hung entirely by students in the program, the show contains work in a variety of mediums—painting, printmaking,. drawing, and sculpture in stone, clay and metal. The show opened Thursday, and continues to Tuesday, March 3 from 10 am to 5 pm. Everyone is welcome to come and view the show in the All College Lounge, room Al17. Noon concert Friday The next in the series of noon concerts put on by the Bachelor of Music Transfer program is on Friday at 12:30 and features Tenor Bruce Hoffman and Pianist Jan Whiting. These concerts are held in H113 and admission is by donation to the Grand Piano Fund. Native Film Festival coming "The Survival of Native Culture" is the theme for the Native Indian Film Festival coming up in March. Sponsored by the CASP (College Achievement and Support Program) for Native students, the event is open to the college community and the general public. Coming up next week are the first three films. On Monday, March 9 at 12:30 Guest Speaker Mr. Len George will introduce "Honour For All", the Alkali Lake Story. On Wednesday at 12:30 the film "More Than Bows and Arrows" (on Native cultural achievements) will be screened. And, on Thursday, March 11 at 7pm a series of short features will be shown: "Joe David: Spirit of the Mask", "Quallunaani", "Ikpik Bay: Not the Land But Ourselves", "Summer of the Loucheux", "Song of the Haida Canoe", and "Spirit of the Hunt". These films will be shown in room L102, and more - films will be coming up on March 17/18 and 24/25. Guitarist/instructor Ihor Kukurudza will be performing with the accompaniment of two students—Brent Gubbels, bass, and Regan Hadu, drums. Kukurudza is an accomplished professional guitarist, who was formerly with the jazz fusion group Sky Walk, and has performed with a long list of top jazz and popular performers from Moe Koffman and Rob McConnell to Bob Hope and Mitzi Gaynor. The concert will be in room H114. Tickets to “Cats” opening on sale The Art department, though its association with the Vancouver Partnership for Business and the Arts and the Vancouver East Cultural Centre, has been offered a limited number of tickets for the opening night of "Cats" on June 30 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. The price is $100 per ticket and includes a $50 income tax deductible receipt, and an invitation to the Gala after the performance to meet the cast. 25 seats have been assigned to Cap, of which 10 are sold already.
