Anna Lee Boulton. Awards night by Lana Robinson Awards night, held on March 27 in the Performing Arts Theatre, celebrated the achievements of both the students and the Capilano College Foundation. The Foundation is marking its 30th anniversary with several initiatives, including the establishment of the first Philanthropy awards. These were presented by Foundation president, Stan Feingold, as part of the evening’s ceremonies. Amongst this year’s 10 recipients are Deborah Burleson, the Music Therapy student who organized the Burning Down the House event held at the College earlier this term, and Maryel Helmers, affectionately known around campus as the can lady. Deborah also received the Paul Gallagher Scholarship for Excellence. The Foundation recognized College employees of 30 years or more for their dedicated service. Dr. Keith Wade, the first faculty member on the Foundation, recalled the early years of a Foundation trying to assist a young college. In its first year, the Foundation granted $1,800 for 24 awards. This year, 730 awards were given, totaling more than $250,000.
