AND * HERE There's a great deal of interest and ex- citement in Sechelt over the new Capilano College expansion, says April Struthers. April has just been appointed Community Education Assistant for the Sunshine Coast Learning Centre and she is happy with her new job. A transplanted city person who now resides on a smal! farm with lots of animals, April has been involved in many different types of education and community work. Since she started she's had constant phone calls from community members inter- ested in Capilano courses of all different kinds, particularly Business Management. "There's a real physical and psychological distance between the Sunshine Coast and the Lower Mainland,'' explained April, which accounts for the deep interest of the residents in the new opportunities being offered by Cap. Welcome, April, and much luck in developing our newest campus. @ ea | <_| of the 1980's is the increasing volume of statistics, statistical trends and probability that we deal with every day. Bearing that in mind many instructors are interested in giving greater emphasis to Statistics and Probability in curricul- um and that is what they will be discuss- One trend ing at Vanstat '80--a workshop at Capilano’ February 22 and 23. Cap College mathemati- cal types Ted Bentley and Alf Waterman are involved in the planning and presentation of this conference, so if youte interested in use of computers, surveys, simulation games and other related topics, contact them for more information. | <) | Joy Smith looks chipper. She's through her gallbladder operation and can now compare “scars with Bill McPhee. * IT x And now, a proclamation from the Personnel Department: "The Election Act provides: Each employee who qualifies as an elector is entitled to four (4) consecutive hours, while the polls are open, during which to vote. If such requires that an employee be granted time off work, whether before, during or after normal hours of work, such time must be considered as time off with pay.'' And now a question from me: Has any- one figured our how a person can possibly take FOUR HOURS to vote? The mind boggles. Perhaps they're assuming that you use the first three to make up your mind. [_7 | <3 Congratulations and a lot of moral support to Capiiano's Curling team of Jamie Sanford, Diane Cook, Shelly Strassman, and Doug Vanderspek. These talented people won the Totem Confer- ence Championship in Nanaimo and are heading ¢ off to Edmonton in the “next few weeks to rep- resent B.C. in the Western Canadian Fin- als. There should be stiff competition from the _ prarie teams , but we think our 4 stand a good chance. Again, Congratulations and good luck, team. Clea |
