On a Personnel Note... arch proved to be another monumental month filled with changes! Surprisingly and sadly, some longtime employees have left the College. First, our former president, Dr. Douglas Jardine, retired recently and will be embarking upon another phase of his extraordinary life. Dr. Rob Turner has accepted the appointment of president of Olds College in Alberta, and more recently, Dr. Frank Gelin has accepted an appointment as executive director with the B.C. Ministry of Transfer and Admissions. A little closer to home (in Personnel), Adele Beaudry, classification analyst, is leaving the College at the end of April. She will join her husband who is currently working in Alberta. Best wishes to everyone! Congratulations go to Priscilla Kyllo for her new temporary appointment as an assistant in the Advising office. The Personnel office is looking forward to ~ Cindy Rogers return at the end of the month. Apparently, her son Dylan is so big now that he will be driving her to work! After attempting the long commute, they have decided that Adele will join him in Alberta at the end of April. They are originally from Edmonton and, although Adele is sad about leaving the city she adores, she is looking forward to going home. Once back in “wild rose country,” Adele hopes to continue her three favourite hobbies: rock climbing, off-road bike racing and expanding her award-winning collection of garden gnomes! Donna Savage in Health Services sends along these reminders about the effects of sunlight. ° Sunlight is enemy number one to human skin. Ultraviolet rays cause burns, premature aging and cancer. ° Skin cancer incidence is increasing faster than any other cancer. Marion Llewellyn, instructor for Graduate Graphic Design, is leaving Capilano College to become program head of Graphic Design at University College of the Fraser Valley. It was a tough decision to leave the College after 15 years, however, the opportunity to design a carte blanche curriculum with new faculty was too good to pass up. Marion will miss all her friends and colleagues. She will continue as a partner in Long and Llewellyn Graphic Design. Her artwork and design has been exhibited in Los Angeles, San Fransisco, Paris, Toronto and Montreal. O April is Cancer Awareness Month sunburn? No! In fact, your burn may be worse due to reflection. Wear a waterproof sunscreen and reapply often. ° Should a tanning salon be used for a head start? No! There is no safe tan. In fact, UVA light (tanning booth) penetrates even more deeply into the skin than UVB light (sun). ° Are fair-skinned, freckled people at greatest risk? Yes! But, dark-haired, dark- eyed, medium-skinned people are also developing skin cancer. Dark skin or fair, play it safe in the sun! O
