June 29,00 ormer South Burnaby resident, Neil Goodman is this year’s winner of the Governor General’s Collegiate Bronze Medal. The Medal is awarded to a Capilano College student who achieves the highest overall average upon graduation from a diploma-level, post- secondary program of a minimum two-year, full-time duration. Neil, who recently graduated from the College’s Technical Computing Professional program, obtained his bachelor of commerce in marketing from the University of British Columbia in 1982. At that time he embarked on a career in retail sales, advancing to progressively higher positions in a variety of companies — starting as an assistant manager and ending up a general manager. Leitch, vice-president and general manager of Lions Gate Studios, was elected as a director of the Capilano College Foundation at its annual general meeting June 8. Peter has been a member of the Capital Planning committee of the Foundation for the past year. Executive committee members include: Stan Feingold, president; F. Allan Taylor, past-president; Daryl Nancy Nowlan, Neil Goodman, Bill Gibson and Greg Lee Collegiate bronze medal winner secures a job with Seagate Software shrinking a few years ago, Neil was forced to re- evaluate his future. He decided that a career change was in order. After a thorough look at the programs offered at other institutions, Neil chose the Technical Computing Professional program at Capilano College. “T felt that it offered the best combination of instruction and practical experience,” he says. With a lot of hard work he was able to achieve his goals, which included obtaining CNA (Certified Novell Administrator), and MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) designations. He has recently secured a job at Seagate Software as a technical support representative for Seagate Info. director elected Collier, vice-president; Iqbal Tejpar, treasurer; Greg Lee, secretary; and W. Gordon Lancaster, member-at-large. Returning directors are: Nilusha Alibhai, Anna Lee Boulton, Nicholas Collins, Pat Dejong, Dr. David T. Fung, Jan Hylnsky, Drew Hockin, Joe Hooker, and Shamshad Jaffer. Two new directors will be appointed by the Sechelt and Squamish advisory committees. Stan presented retiring directors Shari Graydon, Verna Jones and Gain Yee Mah with certificates of appreciation for their dedicated service to the College and the Foundation. Iqbal reported a 10 per cent increase in donations, which translated into $268,588 in bursaries and scholarships in the past year. Changes to the investment process also resulted in a growth of the Foundation’s permanent funds by $276,600 to a total of $3,620,885. Submitted by Lana Robinson
