He pointed out, however, that onlY the Committee m~rs could vote. MOVED b7 Mr. Fougberg; seconded by Mr. MacDonald: THAT the Minutes or the meeting of November 15th, 196? be adopted ae circulated. . .... ~ Vancouver, B.Co · CARRIED o Mr. Jones outlined briefly the concept of the college for the benefit or the CouncUlors, and then asked Mr. Brooks to speak on the main' iseue or the meeting, the use of extsting facilities tor a regional college. Mr. Brooks presented his report, an outline of which vas distributed to those present. As mentioned in the outline, he recommended West Vanco\IY'er Sel'lior Secondary School as the best location for the collegeo l{OVED by 1-h-. Malcolm; seconded by Mr. MacDonald: THAT the North Shore Regional Collage Coorc1inating Committee propose to the Minister or Education thAt the college be ~atablished in existing !acUities at. the earliest possible date - by September, 1968, i t possible - ard to that end request an early plebiscite upon the question~ CARRlEDo / ~ \..__., \......_.... - 2- Mro Brooks pointed out that provision for the college will have to be made through School Board budgets. This means that the plebiscite IIIUSt be held no later than Janua:ey, 1968., in order to amend the budgets, vbich can be done up until February. ~er some discussion regarding a principal for the college, it vas agreed that an acting principal should be appointed as soon as the plebiscite is passed. MOVED by Mr. MacDonald; seconded by Mr. Malcolm: THAT the aforesaid proposal be ref'erred to the School Boards involved for approval. CARRIEDo Mr. f-1alcolm stated that this proposal has already been approved by the Sechelt School Board. MOVED by 111-. Bailey; seconded by Mr. MacDonald: THAT the West Vancouver School Board be asked to investigate the possibility of' making the West Vancouver Senior Secondar,Y School available as an interim site for the college. CARRIED. It was suggested that Mr. Brooks, Mro MacKenzie, and Mrso Radcliffe go down to Bellevue, Washington, to meet the principals of the'high schoOl and the college at the earliest possible opportunity. MOVED by Mr. MacDonald; seconded b3r Mr. Malcolm: THAT expenses in connection with this trip be borne b.Y the Committee. CARRIED. The matter or an inter-board agreement was discussed and Mr. MacDonald o.f'f'ered to prepare a report on this before the next meeting. Mro Jones asked Mro. Brooks to write to the Vancouver Island Collep Council and request any information they may have on inter-board agreement, with a copy of their reply' to be sent te> Mr~ MacDonald. Mr. Ferguson suggested that Mr. Brooks write also to Mr. Eapley, Departme~t of Education, in this connection~ !11-. Jones mentioned that he would be Meeting with the Minister of Education on November 23rd, and ·the Committee agreed that he discuss · unofficially nth the Minuter the proposal or using existing facilities for the college. It was agreed that a p11blicity campaign should begin immediately, as toUows: (a) Mr. Brooks as asked to contact by letter and tollow-up phone call, sarrioe clubs, Chambers of Commerce, teachers' associations 8 P.T.A.•s, eta •• and otrer to arrange tor a speaker at their meetings to inform them or the college. \.._.....- -' - '"-._../ (b) Information on the college is to be released to the presso ttr. Jones had received A letter from the District of North Vancouver Municipal Public Library, asking that we appoint a representative to a liaison committee to be set up to expedite cooperation between school and public libraries on the Jlorth Shore. Mr. Brooks was asked to look atter this. The next meeting will be at the call of the Chair. It was decided to commence the meeting at 4:151 with A break later tor sandwiches and coffee.
